As a Wichita Realtor I spend a lot of time showing homes to buyers. The biggest complaint I hear from buyers is that a home smells. Sellers need to be aware that different odors in a home can be a big turn off for buyers. Many foods create strong odors that tend to linger in a home for quite a while. Just a few examples would be eggs, curry and hamburger meat. Sellers need to be aware that even if the house is great in every other way that food or animal odors will make some buyers go right on down the road to the next house. Be sure to keep it as odor free as possible. As a Realtor I make sure my buyer clients are aware that extremely strong air fresheners are sometimes placed to cover up strong odors such as food or animal. Buyers need to be aware that those good smells will go away over time and you can be left with a smelly situation. If you are listing your home remember that smell is one of the senses you need to appeal to. Don't lose a possible sale because you decided to have eggs for lunch. You can always eat the great food you love after closing.
